i feel like a criminally underrated bumbleby interaction is the “go” scene from v6
the last bees scene we had before this one was during the apathy arc, where blake made a mistake in saying that she’d protect yang and yang took it a bit poorly. and now they’re HERE. they hadn’t gotten the chance to rehash what they’d been talking about at brunswick farm yet, but there still isn’t time to. they’ve been thrown into yet another mission, so the only thing they can do is set aside the Feelings discussion and keep moving forward.
we start the interaction with yang asking blake if she’ll be ok alone. no matter how weird things between them are right now, the first thing she feels is concern. no matter how weird things between them are right now, she will always prioritize blake’s safety.
blake reassures her truthfully — and with a hint of humor. this is likely reminiscent of the way they’d interact at beacon, and blake was probably just instinctively teasing yang the way they used to. but the last time blake had tried to reassure yang, she’d pulled away, so blake backtracks right away.
but yang isn’t offended because, i mean, there’s no reason for her to be. it’s not like blake’s wrong. and there’s so much to be said about the complete un-adam-like way that she didn’t overreact. she took the jab in good humor and told blake to go, trusting that she’d be back. no matter how weird things are, no matter how many unsaid words there still are, she decides to trust blake, and it’s all mustered in that one word.
my point is that. besides the fact that the way they look at each other here is SO gay, the implications in this scene are so beautifully subtle in a way that the more monumental bumbleby moments (namely the v2 talk, yang losing her arm for blake, the adam fight, and the confession/kiss) are not.
